How Shopify fees work in Italy
Selling on Shopify in Italy means three separate costs eat into every order, and it is easy to under-count them. This calculator brings them together so you see real profit per unit, not just the headline margin on your product.
- Subscription: a fixed monthly plan fee, spread across the orders you actually take.
- Payment processing: a percentage of each sale plus a small fixed fee, charged by Shopify Payments or your gateway.
- Third-party transaction fee: an extra Shopify charge that only applies if you don’t use Shopify Payments.
On top of those sit your product cost, shipping and advertising; the calculator subtracts all of them to give net profit, margin, break-even price and the maximum you can spend on ads per order before you lose money.
Shopify plan pricing in Italy (EUR)
Shopify bills Basic, Grow and Advanced in euros: 27 €, 74 € and 384 € a month, dropping to 19 €, 56 € and 289 € on annual billing. Plus is quoted from 2,100 € a month. Shopify's Italian pricing page only shows euro figures to visitors browsing from Italy; from elsewhere it renders the viewer's own currency, which has led several fee calculators to publish American rates as Italian ones.
Rates last verified 2026-08-05. Shopify occasionally adjusts pricing, so always confirm against the official Italy pricing page before committing.
Italian payment methods
Shopify Payments in Italy supports the local methods Italian shoppers expect. Each is selectable in the calculator’s advanced options:
- Standard card (Visa / Mastercard)
- American Express: Amex costs 3.6% on Basic against 1.9% for a standard card, the widest Amex premium of any Shopify market we cover.
- International card: Priced the same as Amex on every plan: 3.6% on Basic down to 3.2% on Advanced, plus 0.25 €.
- Klarna: Flat 4.99% + 0.35 € on every plan.
Standard card rates in Italy run 1.9% on Basic, 1.8% on Grow and 1.6% on Advanced, each plus 0.25 € per order. The number to watch is the international and Amex premium: 3.6% on Basic down to 3.2% on Advanced, the widest gap between domestic and foreign cards of any market we cover, at 1.6 to 1.7 points. An Italian store selling abroad pays nearly double the domestic rate on those orders. Klarna is a flat 4.99% + 0.35 €. Bancontact, iDEAL and TWINT mirror the standard card rate, and Shopify publishes no separate rate for Satispay.
Third-party gateway fees
If you use an external payment provider instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a transaction fee on top of whatever your gateway charges: 2% on Basic, falling to 0.2% on Plus. Switch the calculator’s payment method to “Third-party provider” to enter your gateway’s own rate and see the combined cost.
For most Italian merchants, using Shopify Payments removes this fee entirely and is the cheaper route unless a specific gateway gives you a materially better processing rate.
IVA considerations
Italy's standard IVA rate is 22%, with reduced rates of 10%, 5% and 4% for specific categories. Storefront prices are shown IVA-inclusive to consumers, so divide a 122 € selling price by 1.22 to get the 100 € net figure. Sellers shipping into Italy from elsewhere in the EU charge Italian IVA once EU-wide cross-border sales pass the 10,000 € OSS threshold.
This tool works in net (IVA-exclusive) terms. If your listed prices include IVA at 22%, convert to net before entering them so your margin reflects money you actually keep.
How this calculator works
Every figure is traceable to a formula:
- Processing fee = Price × rate% + fixed fee
- Plan allocation = Monthly plan fee ÷ Monthly order volume
- Break-even price = (fixed costs + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − variable fee rate)
- Max ad spend = profit per order before advertising is deducted
IVA is excluded throughout. The price-sensitivity table re-runs the full model at ±10/20/30% of your price so you can see how margin moves before you discount or raise prices.
Frequently asked questions
Basic costs 27 € a month, or 19 € billed annually, with the highest card rate at 1.9% + 0.25 €. Grow (74/56 €) drops that to 1.8% and Advanced (384/289 €) to 1.6%. The jump from Grow to Advanced is more than five times the subscription, so it only pays once order volume is genuinely high; spread the fee across your real monthly orders in the advanced options.
A lot: 3.6% on Basic, 3.4% on Grow and 3.2% on Advanced, plus 0.25 € per order, against 1.9% to 1.6% for domestic cards. That 1.6 to 1.7 point gap is the widest of any Shopify market we cover, so an Italian store with significant foreign card volume should model those orders separately or the margin picture flatters itself.

Connecting a gateway like PayPal or Stripe instead of Shopify Payments adds 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, on top of the gateway's own charges. For domestic card volume Shopify Payments is usually cheaper once that stacking is counted.
Annual billing lowers the effective monthly fee on every plan: Basic from 27 € to 19 €, Grow from 74 € to 56 €, Advanced from 384 € to 289 €. Processing rates stay identical, so it is purely a cash-flow versus commitment decision once the store is staying on Shopify.
