How Shopify fees work in Denmark
Selling on Shopify in Denmark means three separate costs eat into every order, and it is easy to under-count them. This calculator brings them together so you see real profit per unit, not just the headline margin on your product.
- Subscription: a fixed monthly plan fee, spread across the orders you actually take.
- Payment processing: a percentage of each sale plus a small fixed fee, charged by Shopify Payments or your gateway.
- Third-party transaction fee: an extra Shopify charge that only applies if you don’t use Shopify Payments.
On top of those sit your product cost, shipping and advertising; the calculator subtracts all of them to give net profit, margin, break-even price and the maximum you can spend on ads per order before you lose money.
Shopify plan pricing in Denmark (DKK)
Shopify bills Basic, Grow and Advanced in Danish kroner: 249 kr, 660 kr and 2,870 kr a month, dropping to 189 kr, 499 kr and 2,150 kr on annual billing. Plus is quoted separately in euros, from 2,100 € a month. Note that Shopify's Danish pricing page only shows these kroner figures to visitors browsing from Denmark; from elsewhere it renders the viewer's own currency.

Danish payment methods
Shopify Payments in Denmark supports the local methods Danish shoppers expect. Each is selectable in the calculator’s advanced options:
- Standard card (Visa / Mastercard)
- American Express: Amex runs exactly one percentage point above the standard rate on every plan.
- International card: Priced the same as Amex on every plan: 2.9% on Basic down to 2.6% on Advanced, plus 1.80 kr.
- MobilePay: Denmark's dominant mobile wallet is cheaper than cards on every plan: 1.6% on Basic down to 1.3% on Advanced, plus 1.00 kr.
- Klarna: Flat 2.99% + 3.50 kr on every plan.
Standard card rates fall from 1.9% on Basic to 1.6% on Advanced, each plus 1.80 kr per order, with Amex and international cards exactly one point higher at every tier. The number that matters most for a Danish store is MobilePay: it undercuts cards on every plan, at 1.6% down to 1.3% plus just 1.00 kr, so a checkout mix that leans on MobilePay costs noticeably less to process than the headline card rate suggests. Klarna sits apart at a flat 2.99% + 3.50 kr. Bancontact, iDEAL and TWINT simply mirror the standard card rate.
Third-party gateway fees
If you use an external payment provider instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a transaction fee on top of whatever your gateway charges: 2% on Basic, falling to 0.2% on Plus. Switch the calculator’s payment method to “Third-party provider” to enter your gateway’s own rate and see the combined cost.
For most Danish merchants, using Shopify Payments removes this fee entirely and is the cheaper route unless a specific gateway gives you a materially better processing rate.
VAT (moms) considerations
Denmark charges a flat 25% VAT (moms) with no reduced rate, one of the simplest VAT systems in the EU. Storefront prices shown to Danish consumers are VAT-inclusive, so divide the total by 1.25 to get the net amount. Sellers based elsewhere in the EU must register and charge Danish VAT once their total EU-wide distance sales pass 10,000 € a year, reported through the EU's One-Stop Shop.
This tool works in net (VAT (moms)-exclusive) terms. If your listed prices include VAT (moms) at 25%, convert to net before entering them so your margin reflects money you actually keep.
How this calculator works
Every figure is traceable to a formula:
- Processing fee = Price × rate% + fixed fee
- Plan allocation = Monthly plan fee ÷ Monthly order volume
- Break-even price = (fixed costs + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − variable fee rate)
- Max ad spend = profit per order before advertising is deducted
VAT (moms) is excluded throughout. The price-sensitivity table re-runs the full model at ±10/20/30% of your price so you can see how margin moves before you discount or raise prices.
Frequently asked questions
Basic costs 249 kr a month, or 189 kr billed annually, with the highest card rate at 1.9% + 1.80 kr. Grow (660/499 kr) drops the rate to 1.8% and Advanced (2,870/2,150 kr) to 1.6%. Spread the plan fee across your real monthly orders in the advanced options; for most stores the payment mix moves margin more than the plan choice.
Less than a card, which is unusual: 1.6% + 1.00 kr on Basic, 1.45% on Grow and 1.3% on Advanced, against 1.9% to 1.6% plus 1.80 kr for standard cards. Since MobilePay is the wallet most Danish shoppers reach for, a MobilePay-heavy checkout meaningfully lowers your blended processing cost.
Both run exactly one point above the standard rate: 2.9% on Basic, 2.8% on Grow and 2.6% on Advanced, plus 1.80 kr per order. Klarna is priced separately at a flat 2.99% + 3.50 kr regardless of plan.
