How Shopify fees work in Greece
Selling on Shopify in Greece means three separate costs eat into every order, and it is easy to under-count them. This calculator brings them together so you see real profit per unit, not just the headline margin on your product.
- Subscription: a fixed monthly plan fee, spread across the orders you actually take.
- Payment processing: a percentage of each sale plus a small fixed fee, charged by Shopify Payments or your gateway.
- Third-party transaction fee: an extra Shopify charge that only applies if you don’t use Shopify Payments.
On top of those sit your product cost, shipping and advertising; the calculator subtracts all of them to give net profit, margin, break-even price and the maximum you can spend on ads per order before you lose money.
Shopify plan pricing in Greece (EUR)
Shopify bills Basic, Grow and Advanced in euros for Greece, with roughly a 25-30% discount for paying annually. Plus starts from 2,100 EUR a month, the same starting figure Shopify quotes across its other EU pricing pages.
Rates last verified 2026-08-05. Shopify occasionally adjusts pricing, so always confirm against the official Greece pricing page before committing.
Greek payment methods
Shopify Payments in Greece supports the local methods Greek shoppers expect. Each is selectable in the calculator’s advanced options:
- Standard card (Visa / Mastercard)
- American Express: Amex runs from 2.9% on Basic to 2.7% on Advanced, a full percentage point above the standard card rate.
- International card: Priced the same as Amex on every plan.
- Klarna: Flat 4.99% plus 0.35 EUR on every plan, Shopify's highest published Klarna rate among the markets researched here.
Standard card rates fall from 1.9% on Basic to 1.7% on Advanced, each plus 0.25 EUR per order. Amex and international cards are priced identically to each other on every plan, from 2.9% on Basic to 2.7% on Advanced, a full percentage point above standard. Klarna is available at a flat 4.99% plus 0.35 EUR regardless of plan. Shopify Payments itself is a relatively recent addition for Greek merchants, so stores that set up an alternative processor before it launched may still be paying fees they no longer need to.
Third-party gateway fees
If you use an external payment provider instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a transaction fee on top of whatever your gateway charges: 2% on Basic, falling to 0.2% on Plus. Switch the calculator’s payment method to “Third-party provider” to enter your gateway’s own rate and see the combined cost.
For most Greek merchants, using Shopify Payments removes this fee entirely and is the cheaper route unless a specific gateway gives you a materially better processing rate.
VAT (ΦΠΑ) considerations
Greece's standard VAT (ΦΠΑ) rate is 24%, with reduced rates of 13% for food, water and passenger transport, and 6% for medicine, books and theatre tickets. Most general merchandise stores use the 24% rate. Storefront prices are VAT-inclusive, so divide by 1.24 for the net amount. Distance sellers register and charge Greek VAT once total EU-wide sales pass the 10,000 EUR OSS threshold.
This tool works in net (VAT (ΦΠΑ)-exclusive) terms. If your listed prices include VAT (ΦΠΑ) at 24%, convert to net before entering them so your margin reflects money you actually keep.
How this calculator works
Every figure is traceable to a formula:
- Processing fee = Price × rate% + fixed fee
- Plan allocation = Monthly plan fee ÷ Monthly order volume
- Break-even price = (fixed costs + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − variable fee rate)
- Max ad spend = profit per order before advertising is deducted
VAT (ΦΠΑ) is excluded throughout. The price-sensitivity table re-runs the full model at ±10/20/30% of your price so you can see how margin moves before you discount or raise prices.
Frequently asked questions
Basic costs 27 EUR a month, or 19 EUR billed annually, with the highest card rate at 1.9%. Grow (74/56 EUR) brings that down to 1.8%, and Advanced (384/289 EUR) to 1.7%. The jump from Grow to Advanced is steep, over five times the monthly fee, so it only makes sense once your order volume is large enough for the 0.1 percentage point rate cut to matter.
Amex and international cards cost the same as each other in Greece: 2.9% on Basic, 2.8% on Grow, 2.7% on Advanced, roughly a full percentage point above the 1.9% to 1.7% standard card rate. Klarna is available at checkout too, priced at a flat 4.99% plus 0.35 EUR regardless of plan, higher than Klarna's rate in most of the other markets researched here.

Routing payments through a gateway other than Shopify Payments adds 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, on top of that gateway's own charges. Shopify Payments became available in Greece relatively recently, so merchants who set up a workaround before that may still be paying this extra fee unnecessarily.
Paying annually cuts the subscription by around 25-30%: Basic from 27 to 19 EUR a month, Grow from 74 to 56 EUR, and Advanced from 384 to 289 EUR. Card rates do not change with billing frequency, so the annual discount is straightforward savings once you are confident you will keep the store running.
