How Shopify fees work in Finland
Selling on Shopify in Finland means three separate costs eat into every order, and it is easy to under-count them. This calculator brings them together so you see real profit per unit, not just the headline margin on your product.
- Subscription: a fixed monthly plan fee, spread across the orders you actually take.
- Payment processing: a percentage of each sale plus a small fixed fee, charged by Shopify Payments or your gateway.
- Third-party transaction fee: an extra Shopify charge that only applies if you don’t use Shopify Payments.
On top of those sit your product cost, shipping and advertising; the calculator subtracts all of them to give net profit, margin, break-even price and the maximum you can spend on ads per order before you lose money.
Shopify plan pricing in Finland (EUR)
Shopify bills Basic, Grow and Advanced in euros for Finland, with the usual roughly 25% discount for annual billing. Plus starts from 2,100 EUR a month and is billed separately since it does not carry the annual-billing discount shown on the other three plans.
Rates last verified 2026-08-05. Shopify occasionally adjusts pricing, so always confirm against the official Finland pricing page before committing.
Finnish payment methods
Shopify Payments in Finland supports the local methods Finnish shoppers expect. Each is selectable in the calculator’s advanced options:
- Standard card (Visa / Mastercard)
- American Express: Amex runs from 3.1% on Basic to 2.9% on Advanced, the widest gap to the standard card rate of the Nordic markets covered here.
- International card: Priced the same as Amex on every plan.
- Klarna: Flat 2.99% plus 0.35 EUR on every plan.
Standard card rates fall from 1.6% on Basic to 1.4% on Advanced, each plus 0.25 EUR per order, among the lower standard rates Shopify publishes for any market in this set. Amex and international cards both sit around 3%, roughly 1.5 percentage points above standard, the widest Amex premium of the six countries researched here. Klarna and MobilePay are both available to Finnish shoppers at checkout; Klarna is priced at a flat 2.99% plus 0.35 EUR regardless of plan, while Shopify does not publish a separate per-order rate for MobilePay on the Finland pricing page.
Third-party gateway fees
If you use an external payment provider instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds a transaction fee on top of whatever your gateway charges: 2% on Basic, falling to 0.2% on Plus. Switch the calculator’s payment method to “Third-party provider” to enter your gateway’s own rate and see the combined cost.
For most Finnish merchants, using Shopify Payments removes this fee entirely and is the cheaper route unless a specific gateway gives you a materially better processing rate.
VAT (ALV) considerations
Finland raised its standard VAT (ALV) rate to 25.5% in September 2024, and folded its two reduced rates into a single 13.5% band from January 2026, covering food, restaurants and passenger transport. Most general merchandise stores use the 25.5% rate. Storefront prices are VAT-inclusive, so divide by 1.255 for the net amount. Resident businesses register once turnover passes 20,000 EUR a year; non-resident distance sellers register once EU-wide sales pass the 10,000 EUR OSS threshold.
This tool works in net (VAT (ALV)-exclusive) terms. If your listed prices include VAT (ALV) at 25.5%, convert to net before entering them so your margin reflects money you actually keep.
How this calculator works
Every figure is traceable to a formula:
- Processing fee = Price × rate% + fixed fee
- Plan allocation = Monthly plan fee ÷ Monthly order volume
- Break-even price = (fixed costs + fixed fee) ÷ (1 − variable fee rate)
- Max ad spend = profit per order before advertising is deducted
VAT (ALV) is excluded throughout. The price-sensitivity table re-runs the full model at ±10/20/30% of your price so you can see how margin moves before you discount or raise prices.
Frequently asked questions
Basic costs 32 EUR a month, or 24 EUR a month billed annually, and carries the highest card rate at 1.6%. Grow (92/69 EUR) drops that to 1.5%, and Advanced (384/289 EUR) to 1.4%. Finland's standard rates are already among the lowest Shopify publishes, so the case for upgrading rests more on order volume than on chasing a lower percentage.
Amex and international cards both cost noticeably more than standard cards in Finland: 3.1% on Basic falling to 2.9% on Advanced, versus 1.6% down to 1.4% for standard Visa and Mastercard, a gap of about 1.5 percentage points. Klarna is priced separately at 2.99% plus 0.35 EUR per order on every plan. MobilePay is also available to Finnish shoppers at checkout, though Shopify does not publish a distinct per-order rate for it.
Finland's standard VAT (ALV) is 25.5%, raised from 24% in September 2024, with a single 13.5% reduced rate covering food and passenger transport since January 2026. Storefront prices are VAT-inclusive, so divide by 1.255 to get the net amount at the standard rate. Resident businesses register once turnover passes 20,000 EUR a year, and non-resident distance sellers register once EU-wide sales pass 10,000 EUR under the OSS scheme.
Routing payments through a gateway other than Shopify Payments adds 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus, on top of that gateway's own charges. With Finland's standard Shopify Payments rates already low, few merchants gain much by avoiding it.
Paying annually saves roughly 25%: Basic drops from 32 to 24 EUR a month, Grow from 92 to 69 EUR, and Advanced from 384 to 289 EUR. Card rates are unaffected by billing frequency, so the saving is pure subscription cost, worth taking once you are committed to trading for the full year.
